Whether it’s acquiring a new skill, achieving a personal sports record, getting fit, overcoming a serious illness or traumatic event, coping with unemployment or simply making it through the day with a positive outlook, we ALL have things in our life we deem important for us to achieve. These things are our Personal Achievements the personal successes we have achieved that we can feel proud of.
So, what is it that helps some people achieve more and with greater success than others?
There are nine key life skills that come in really handy when it comes to improving your ability to achieve on a personal level and move your life in the direction you want it to go. If you can keep each of these life skills in tip-top condition, you’re more likely to be living the best life possible.
One – Taking Responsibility
Your goals, dreams or whatever you want to achieve are personal. They are also highly unlikely to simply fall into your lap. Take personal responsibility for them. Accept that if you want to achieve these things you need to act. Make them happen by proactively taking control of the situation and making things happen.
Two – Personal Goal Setting
It’s going to be difficult to achieve anything if you don’t know what you want to achieve. The first step towards personal achievement is to define where you want to be, who you want to be and what you want to be/do.
Three – Be Honest
Get in touch with your Inner Imp Honesty to ensure that you’re setting yourself realistic goals. More often that not our dreams are shattered because we aren’t honest with ourselves. There really shouldn’t be a limit to what you aim for but, the chances of winning an Olympic Gold swimming medal next year when you only ever splash about in a swimming pool on holiday are pretty slim. Keep your goals simple at first until you get the hang of achieving and then move on to bigger and better things.
Four – Project Planning
Once you know what you want to do, you need to be able to come up with a plan. Think before you act: come up with a plan of action and you’ll be more likely to arrive at your goal successfully.
Five – Courage
Often, we have a goal and we have a plan but our Inner Imp Courage is lacking some spark. It takes Courage to go for what you want. It takes Courage to risk failure. It takes Courage to achieve personal success. Be courageous.
Six – Positive Thinking
Believe in yourself. You’ll face set backs, competition and negative naysayers as your plan progresses and you make your way towards your goal. Confidence and belief in yourself and what you’re doing will help you face any challenges. If you really believe you can achieve your goal, the Law of Attraction will work to guide you in the right direction.
Seven – Joie de Vivre and Balance
Don’t focus entirely on the end goal and burn yourself out. Take the time to enjoy want you’re doing along the path and you’re more likely to arrive at a successful destination.
Eight – Dig Deeper and Persevere
Anything you stick at (persevere with) will eventually get done. Persevere with your plan, follow the steps one by one and you’ll eventually achieve your goal.
Discipline is a major player when it comes to personal achievement and goes hand in hand with perseverance. Your Inner Imp Self Discipline has got to show up every time you need him to make sure you show up whenever there’s something on your plan that needs to be done – with no excuses.
